Founded by Italian designers Andre Trimarchi and Simone Farresin after they met at Design Academy Eindhoven in 2009, Formafantasma was quickly singled out by critics and curators as a practice that would shape the future of design.

Interrogating the origins of materials while experimenting with new uses and casting a critical eye on culture, commerce and consumption, Formafantasma’s work is elegant, unexpected and thought-provoking.

The studio’s diverse list of clients and collaborators includes well-known furniture and lighting companies as well as conceptual design pioneers Droog, fashion brands such as Fendi and Hermès, and galleries and institutions like London’s Gallery Libby Sellers and Milan’s Triennale. Their work is in the permanent collections of New York’s Museum of Modern Art, London’s V&A, the Chicago Art Institute, the Pompidou in Paris, the MAK Museum in Vienna and Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum, among many others.

In 2019 Trimarchi and Farresin were announced as founding heads of a new Master’s program at Design Academy Eindhoven, playing a key role in shaping the direction of the highly influential Dutch school.
