ISLAND takes advantage of a non-productive area by maximizing the surrounding layout and transforming it into a practical space. Without impeding line of sight, the freestanding, unobtrusive bench helps to define movement and natural flow through a room while staying sympathetic to its environment.
Made up of long modular units allowing infinite sizes and a variety of depths, supported by a steel frame and panels of CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) and optional upholstered seating. Material is high-quality and sustainable. A simple portfolio of configurations, colours, textiles and add-ons can be mixed and matched to create endless possibilities. External or internal partitions can act as back rests and various sized tables and integrated charging modules provide points of engagement.Additional accessories include multiple sized tables and cushions. Easy to dismantleand rebuild when cleaning, the units are hygienic and ideal for busy areas. With single or double depth options and continuing units, it’s easily scalable and expandable as communities grow.
A natural evolution of the successful Established & Sons’ GRID System, ISLAND addresses how the way we work continues to change, with breakout areas for informal, flexible use becoming increasingly prevalent. Designer Erwan Bouroullec says, “The concept was designed to encourage relaxed social interactions, impromptu meetings, or a pause between journeys. A place to linger and recharge, bringing about productivity or rest.”
